Alright! After a few technical hurdles we're able to post the interview I did with
Animation Salvation in
June of 2010!
You can watch my egg head above or listen/download the audio (mp3)
here.
We had a lot of fun doing this interview and it covers a lot of ground, from how and when I started this animation thing, influences, favorite work, demo reels, etc. etc. It was work approved, so you'll find two heavier edits throughout the 84mins, but the rest is full on subjective bullcrap from my part, hahahaha! I'm sure I'll get emails/comments about "What are you talking about, that never happened!!", but hey, this is how I remembered things. :)
I hope it's as fun to listen to as it was to talk about it. Enjoy!
Excellent interview, JD! Great to hear all the insights and history behind your journey to the top.
ReplyDeleteInspiring!

Great! Very clear audio, unlike some other animation podcast interviews I won't mention. What kind of headphones & mic do you have on that egg-head of yours? :)
ReplyDeleteThose are Sennheiser headphones. :)
ReplyDeleteWe recorded it using Supertintin with Skype, but the end format of the video was all messed up and it took some crazy frankensteining to get it all together. It ended up being quite an After Effects file. :)
ReplyDeletegood interview JD, so how are you involed with AM and animation salvation do you mentor at both these sites?
ReplyDeleteRichie
Animation Salvation approached me for the interview, but I'm a campus mentor at AM.
ReplyDeleteHi Jean
ReplyDeleteThats a great interview.
I just have a question about timing for applying. Would you say that a reel sent during crunch time has a better chance at being looked at than a reel sent during dry period.
Thanks for the interview anyway.
It's always a tricky thing with reel submissions. Timing is everything. But on a very broad scale, applying around the Christmas time seems better because it's before the final crunch for Summer releases. But that might just be me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jean , love your blog , keep sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Jean. Great Interview. I'm quite curious to hear the name of that short you were telling about on Cartoon Brew done by a group of french students. You mentioned that they came up with an exciting new style. peter
ReplyDeleteI really don't remember, sorry. There have been so many new shorts that looked great since too though.
